Guccio Gucci. The Long Road to Glory.

Gucci is a brand created in Italy in early 1900. The founder of the brand Gucci («The House of Gucci») was Guccio Gucci. Gucci was the son of an Italian craftsman. He was born in 1881 in Florence. His father sold straw hats made by him. However, the son began to produce horse harness. The workshop was called “The House of Gucci”. But it did not work for long. Soon Guccio went to London. In London he began his career at London’s Hotel “Savoy”. There he served as a waiter, dish washer and gofer. But Guchio had access to expensive luggage (including wardrobe) of rich guests, forming, thus, his vision of elegance and style. It was here that he conceived the idea to create a line of fashion. But it took him a little less than half a century to realize his dream.

Some historical facts of The House of Gucci:

1921 – foundation of the brand Gucci in Florence.
1937 – Gucci opened a factory for the production of handbags, suitcases and gloves.
1938 – brand boutique of Gucci opened on the street Via Condotti in Rome.
1940 – brand stores of Gucci have been opened across Italy.
1953 – the first store was opened on Fifth Avenue in New York.
1979 – the first collection of accessories “Gucci Accessories Collection” was developed.
